The ultimate goal of the ISYP Africa Project is to foster a robust and diverse community that can effectively address the complex issues related to peaceful nuclear applications and nuclear disarmament in Africa. The Project has two core objectives: to promote capacity-building in Africa and to facilitate diversity-building in and beyond Africa.
Building capacities on peaceful nuclear applications and nuclear disarmament present immense opportunities for Africa as well as for Africa’s friends and partners. Nuclear technologies provide a glimmer of hope by providing solutions to energy poverty, food security and water scarcity challenges as well as enhanced medical treatments. Promoting peaceful nuclear applications in Africa has the potential of boosting research and development beyond the continent as well as mitigating reverberating effects. The continent constitutes a nuclear-weapons-free zone, reflecting the commitment of African states towards a nuclear-weapons-free world. Their engagement was crucial to the adoption of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, and Africa’s young professionals are already demonstrating through various initiatives the potential they can bring to global nuclear disarmament. Without any doubt, nuclear energy, nuclear technologies, nuclear non-proliferation, and nuclear disarmament which are critical global issues are also critical topics for discourse, dialogue, policy entrepreneurship, activism, and education on the continent.
Are you a student, young professional, or emerging leader passionate about nuclear issues? We invite you to join our vibrant community of young Africans shaping the future of nuclear policy, technology, and disarmament.
